Charlotte Housing Authority Releases First Economic Impact Study
Agency contributes more than $799 million in economic output in Mecklenburg County
Charlotte, NC—January 26, 2016— The Charlotte Housing Authority (CHA) recently released the agency’s first comprehensive economic impact analysis report which illustrates CHA’s undeniable impact through income generation, job creation, real estate development and beyond.
“CHA is a proud member of the Charlotte business community and this report quantifies this agency’s significant role as an economic driver,” said A. Fulton Meachem Jr., CEO of the Charlotte Housing Authority. “We have many exciting plans over the next few years and this report provides critical data that shows that the service we provide to the Mecklenburg County region extends far beyond providing affordable housing. CHA is an asset to the families we serve and is a strong contributor to the economic health of our region.”
IMPLAN Group, LLC (IMPLAN), based in Huntersville, and Primm Research, LLC, prepared the report in order to estimate the economic impact of CHA within the primary investment area of Mecklenburg County. IMPLAN is the national leader in providing economic impact data to analysts and consultants.
Uniquely positioned at the intersection between public and private funding, CHA boosts local economic activity by distributing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding within Mecklenburg County, which translates into hundreds of jobs with competitive salaries and benefits, residential and mixed-use real estate developments and Housing Choice Voucher rent payments.
