A Message Regarding The Federal Government Shutdown
January 9, 2019
On December 21, 2018 at midnight, the Federal Government entered a partial shutdown. As a result, funding expired and work ceased across nine federal departments. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is one of the affected agencies.
During a shutdown, the government discontinues providing services that are not deemed “essential” due to the absence of appropriations.
The ongoing partial shutdown of the U.S. government will not immediately disrupt the lives of Charlotte Housing
Authority's (CHA) 22,000 residents, 1500 landlords or our 200 employees.
CHA received HUD’s standard monthly payment in January 2019, ensuring that CHA’s programs and services will remain fully funded through the month. In addition, HUD’s February funding has been obligated and scheduled for release to CHA on Feb. 1, 2019, ensuring the agency funding through February.
Please be assured that we are closely monitoring this matter. This is an unsettling time and we will do our best to maintain open lines of communication and keep you informed of any potential changes to our operations due to the shutdown.
Respectfully, A. Fulton MeachemBack to News
