Tall Oaks Redevelopment
HDP has strategically envisioned a redevelopment plan for the Tall Oaks community centered on preserving affordable housing that directly responds to the needs of the existing residents. The redevelopment plan is within the Cherry community, one of Charlotte’s most historic neighborhoods and oldest African American communities.
Redevelopment activities will be completed in two phases. Phase I, underway now, will consist of 81 units for families with incomes up to 60% of AMI and is being built utilizing 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits. When complete, this phase will offer one, two, three and four bedroom units on scattered sites within walking distance of each other. Amenities will include outdoor seating areas, an exercise room, multi-purpose room, computer lab and leasing center. Lease-up should begin in the fall of 2017. See renderings and a development map to the right.
Phase II is anticipated to be workforce housing development with a mix of unit sizes and amenities that will be determined in the near future.
